Sources of Face Seal Problems

– Sources of Face Seal Problems Face seals are rated by hours and have a limited life. Over time they will wear out and need to be replaced according to the manufacturer’s recommendations or when a leak is noticed behind the sprocket. If the undercarriage is not kept clean, dirt can collect so tightly around the drive motor that it pushes the front gasket out of place. The smooth face of the gasket is key to its proper function, and when the face gaskets are forced out of place, debris is trapped between the faces. Not only can these abrasive residues separate the faces enough for the residues to break through, but they can scar the faces and provide additional paths for the gear oil to escape.
